- projects financed by the Touristit sites Protection Fund : Owing to its historical and geographical importance, and to its promising tourist policies, Mahdia has gained the confidence of the TSPF which not only financed and realised many projects both in the tourist zone and in the old Medina, but also subsidized infrastructure.
By 2001, the whole amount of subvention reached 1841.000 D.

- The sample project for managing the Sea-Shore dunes :

- The Project's Frame: The Asfouria Beach project is part of a technical experiment which consists in stabilizing the dunes by fixing anti-wind poles in damaged places. The fixing is preceded by a study after which poles are fastened according to the need.
This technique has frequently been used in the Northern Coast of the Mediterranean Sea.

- Objectives : Managing and reframing the sand dunes so that they will play their role in protecting the beach from erosion, and in preserving the ecological balance of the beach.
- Practising a suitable technique that has been successfully used in the Mediterranean sea.
- Limiting the sand outflow (Which is caused by wind and which penetrates in the town) and protecting town buildings from this phenomenon.

- Content : Fixing a linear design of about 3000 metres of anti-wind poles opposite a 600 metres of the sea.
-Exploiting natural beach plants that help in stabilizing the dunes.

- Cost :

The amount of money spent on the project is about 100.000 D

- Impact : Gaining experience in Stabilizing sand dunes
- Cooperation of environment associations in the project
- Limiting the sand outflow to the 7th of November Street and protecting constructions and drainage infrastructure from sand accumulation.

Future Projects

- The presidential Project of Managing Ben Ghayada Sabkha (lake) :

- General Frame:This presidential project is part of the National program of protecting and giving value to the coastal Sebkhas.
The first part of the program consists in clearing the Sebkha.

- Study Objectives : Personalizing the facts and the constraints that have disturbed the ecological balance.
- Finding Solutions to how to manage and value the Sebkha and the surrounding environment.

The project will take into consideration short-term, and long-term needs without neglecting the environment

- Study elements : The study is made of 3 stages :

- First Stage: It consists in preparing a Survey of the Sebkha's ecological situation, completing research to know the ecological and hydrological characteristics of the area, and scheduling possible techniques to clean and manage the Sebkha.
- Second Stage: It consists in preparing Studies on the purposes of the project.
- Third Stage: It consists in filing documents of work achievement.

- Managing Purposes :
One of the purposes of the management is to link the Sebkha to the Sea and change it to an artifical lake. This can be done only after checking that it will not have any negative effects on the environment and especially on the surface water table, which may be affected by the two waters contact.
Another purpose is to manage a part of the shores and exploit it for tourist and entertainment aims.
Plantation areas will be created and general service equipment will be installed.
